Do you need a renewal notice to renew your New York registration?
No. The renewal notice the DMV mails you is a reminder, not a requirement. If your registration is otherwise eligible, you can renew it without having the notice in hand.
If you're renewing by mail or at a DMV office and don't have your renewal notice, New York DMV instructions allow you to use a completed Vehicle Registration/Title Application (Form MV-82) instead, along with the other required documents.

Why didn't I receive my renewal notice?
Renewal notices can be delayed, lost in the mail, or sent to an old address if your mailing address on file with the DMV isn't current. Whatever the reason, don't rely on the notice arriving in the mail as your signal to renew.
If you've moved, update your address with the DMV before you renew. It's where your new registration documents will be mailed.
What do you need to renew without a renewal notice?
To renew online, have these ready:

- Your registration class: listed on your registration document
